Energy Audit: Are You Running on Empty or Lit Up From the Inside?

Have you ever noticed how you can spend an hour in two completely different ways — one leaves you feeling alive, the other leaves you flat? That difference is energy.
We often keep track of time, commitments, and responsibilities… but rarely do we stop to notice our energy. Yet energy is the truest measure of how we’re living. You can have all the time in the world, but if you’re drained, uninspired, or simply going through the motions, it won’t feel like much of a life. Think about it. Some people you spend time with leave you feeling light and uplifted. Others — even in a short conversation — leave you heavy and restless. These moments aren’t random. They’re your body’s way of showing you: this feeds me or this depletes me.
Energy is feedback. It points us toward alignment with who we are and what matters most. When you feel lit up, curious, or at ease, that’s not just chance — it’s a signal you’re moving closer to what’s true for you. When you feel flat, contracted, or restless, your system is quietly whispering, this isn’t the way.
When we keep pushing in the wrong direction, it catches up with us. The weight shows up in our bodies, our moods, and even our sense of self. Life starts to feel more like something to survive than something to live. It’s exhausting to keep pouring energy into what doesn’t nourish us. But when we move in the right direction, the shift is unmistakable. We feel lighter, clearer, more present. Even effort feels purposeful, like the energy we’re giving is coming back to us multiplied. In alignment, we don’t just “get through the day” — we begin to feel carried by it.
So how do you run an Energy Audit? It’s simple. At the end of the day, pause and ask yourself:
What gave me energy today?
What drained me?
Write it down. No judgment — just noticing. Over time, the patterns reveal themselves. The things that energize you will usually connect back to your truth. The drains often point to where you’re forcing, overextending, or moving against yourself.
Your energy is one of the most precious things you have. Treat it as a compass. Guard it. And most importantly, trust it.
At the end of the day, your energy always tells the truth. The question is — are you listening?
